An unusual cultural experiment in Hyderabad is bringing together two creative worlds that rarely intersect—architecture and fine dining. The event, called “Palate by Design,” pairs architects and designers with celebrated chefs to create immersive spaces where the environment and the food are designed to complement each other.

Hosted at Signature Estates in Hyderabad, the two-day event transforms villas into curated installations where design and cuisine interact. Each space is conceptualised by a designer while the dining experience is crafted by a chef, turning the interiors into part of the storytelling behind the meal.

The idea behind the showcase is to highlight how design can influence the way people experience food. Instead of a typical restaurant setting, visitors move through carefully designed spaces where lighting, furniture, materials and layout are aligned with the culinary theme being served. The result is an experience where architecture, décor and gastronomy function as a single creative narrative.

Seven collaborations form the heart of the event, each pairing a design studio with a restaurant or chef. For example, designer Sarah Choudhary works with Ekaa, while Abin Chaudhuri partners with Izumi. Other collaborations include restaurants such as The Table, Indian Accent, Banng, Tehzeeb, and Praça Prazeres, each presenting a distinct culinary identity within a uniquely designed environment.

Each installation interprets a different design philosophy—from minimal and contemplative spaces to bold interiors that draw on cultural heritage. The aim is to demonstrate how the mood created by architecture and interior design can shape how flavours are perceived.

Beyond the dining experience, the event also reflects a broader trend where luxury real estate, lifestyle experiences and cultural programming intersect. Signature Estates, the venue for the event, is a large villa development planned across more than 100 acres with a limited number of high-end homes designed to emphasise open space and landscape.

By blending architecture with gastronomy, Palate by Design attempts to show how different creative disciplines can influence one another. The event ultimately presents dining not just as a culinary act but as a multisensory experience shaped by space, design and atmosphere.
